Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: Is the 4,000L tank suitable for use as a primary water supply for a tiny home?

This is an important question for tiny home living. While a 4000L tank can be part of your water system, we generally do not recommend it as the sole primary water source for a full-time tiny home, especially if you will be relying on paid water deliveries. This is because water delivery trucks typically carry a minimum of 8,000 to 12,000 litres per load, and you are charged for the entire delivery. Filling a single 4,000L tank this way is therefore not cost-effective. Furthermore, the limited roof space on a tiny home restricts how much rainwater you can collect, meaning you might struggle to keep the tank replenished through rainfall alone with regular use.

However, this tank is an exceptionally versatile and highly effective solution in two specific scenarios:

  1. Trickle Supply: If you have access to a slow but constant water source, such as a small spring, a low-yield bore, or even a regulated town supply connection, the 4000L tank is perfect. It acts as a storage reservoir, allowing you to accumulate this trickle of water over time for use when you need it.
  2. Greywater Recycling: This is one of the best uses for a low profile tank of this size. You can plumb your tiny home's greywater (from showers, sinks, and laundry) into this tank. The stored water can then be reused for flushing toilets or irrigating your garden, dramatically reducing your overall fresh water consumption and environmental footprint. This tank may require a pump to move the grey water into the tank as it is a rather tall unit.

In summary: For a self-sufficient primary supply, we recommend looking at our larger 10,000L tank. But for supplementing your system, managing a trickle supply, or creating an efficient greywater recycling setup, the 4000L tank is an ideal and cost-effective choice.

Is the 4,000L water tank suitable for drinking water?

Yes, your 4,000L tank is manufactured from premium, UV-stabilized polyethylene that is certified to food-grade standards. This makes it entirely suitable for storing safe drinking water (potable water) when correctly set up. For optimal water quality, we recommend installing a first-flush diverter for rainwater collection and performing periodic maintenance as needed.

How do I install my new 4,000 litre plastic water tank?

Installation is straightforward. Choose a location that is flat, stable, and can support the weight of a full tank (4,000L of water weighs 4,000kg). A level concrete pad or a compacted base of crusher metal (GAP 7 Stone) is ideal. Ensure the area is clear of sharp objects that could damage the base. Once positioned, you can connect your downpipe to the through a hole you need to drill into the tank and using a Rubber Tank Seal, Install an Overflow, and attach a hose to the outlet fitting or connecting it to a pump.

Does the tank come with a warranty?

Yes, we stand behind the quality of our products. This 4,000L water tank comes with a 20 year manufacturer's warranty against defects. Please refer to our warranty policy page, download our manual just above or contact us for specific terms and duration.

What maintenance does a 4,000L plastic water tank require?

Our 4,000L Plastic water tanks are very low maintenance. The main task is to occasionally check and clean the inlet and overflow to prevent blockages from leaves and debris. It is also good practice to inspect the inside of the tank every few years for any sediment buildup and clean it out if necessary.

Inspect the base materials have not washed out and the tank remains on solid ground.

Regularly check the tank for any signs of damage or leaks, especially around the fittings and seams.
